Introduction

1. Percepts and Anthroposophical concepts
As a path of knowledge, one of Anthroposophy’s strengths is that it enables us to think in such a way that we can bring concepts to illumine and make sense of  percepts which would otherwise remain confused and confusing. Today we have plenty of perceptions of evil,  but we lack the concepts to explain them and thus come to terms with them. On the Internet, for example, one can find many websites which discuss evil in relation to the New World Order (NWO). If you still need  evidence of  plans for the  New World Order, if you still doubt those who claim that there is a NWO conspiracy, you only need to lift your head out of the narrow orbit of ideas represented by the mainstream media and begin to seriously investigate the matter. You will then find that there is plenty of evidence to be found, whether on the Internet or elsewhere. Thousands of men and women have worked very hard and in many cases risked their lives or at least their reputations to bring the evidence  to light. In contrast to the relatively simplistic explanations of  evil and of the New World Order I have just mentioned,  Anthroposophy offers a rigorous and profound conceptual, spiritual framework which is able to make sense not only of contemporary perceptual evils – that is, observable evil actions, but also of evil itself and its place in evolution. In this contribution I shall first discuss how Rudolf Steiner saw evil in relation to human evolution. I shall then go on to consider the problem of evil in relation to some percepts of the New World Order drive towards a global slave state and particularly the part played in it by British  and American elites.

2. A picture of evolution  – the prodigal son
The Bible speaks of the story of the prodigal son and this story is a metaparable of the whole of human evolution – the separation from the Divine, the Fall into the physical, the schooling on Earth, the development of human wisdom and love, and the eventual Return to the Divine. The purpose of this whole process is the initiation of Man into Freedom and Love. Freely expressed human love – as distinct from maternal love, or the love for one’s own people -  is the result of  choices made by individuals based on knowledge and understanding of relationship, however partial. Ultimately, that means understanding how everything in the cosmos is related to everything else: at that point human love and cosmic love become one. The reason why we are here is to turn this planet, this humanity, this cosmos, from being what Rudolf Steiner called a cosmos of wisdom into a cosmos of love, more prosaically, one could say, to add warmth to light. But to do this, to make this choice, we have to be free. Freedom requires opposition, and therefore the divine spiritual powers decreed that certain of their number should take on the role of providing that opposition to man’s initiation into love. There are 3 such beings we shall be concerned with today in our considerations of  evil – to whom Rudolf Steiner gave the names of Lucifer and Ahriman, and a third, who is named, not only by him,  as Sorath.

3.  The role of evil in evolution
This initiation in love required that both the cosmos and Man descended into ever denser states of being until the final state – the mineral – was reached. This is the physical Earth and universe we see around us today. The various other states previous to this have all been described by Steiner in his works, notably Occult Science – An Outline. Man and the cosmos descended into this realm to the point where further condensation became undesirable if the purpose of the process – the initiation into love – were to continue. At that point, some 2000 years ago now, the process was put into reverse by the divine powers. The cosmic process of incarnation changed to one of excarnation. This process has been likened to a cosmic breath: exhalation and inhalation. The Master of this process is the Being known in the West as the Christ, the Logos, but in other cultures by other names. It is He who has accompanied Man throughout the process of incarnation, and He whose own Incarnation onto the  physical  plane 2000 years ago in Palestine began the reversal of the process. This is why Steiner always emphasised that it was not so much Christ’s moral teaching that was important, but rather His Deeds – His crucifixion and Resurrection – not the teaching of love, but the ultimate Deeds of love. The Buddha, after all, had been a great teacher of morality and love, but he was not put to death in an evil way as was the Christ. The confrontation with evil is at the heart of  the events in Palestine.

The role of evil in the world is that played by the 3 spiritual powers I have mentioned to frustrate Man’s understanding of, and co-working with this great process of human evolution – to prevent Man from developing the freedom to choose love. Without the opposition they provide, we could not wake up. Paradoxically, they seek in their own ways to keep us asleep, but if they did not work within us, we would have nothing to wake up from. In this sense they help us to wake. The actual power to wake, however, comes not from them, but from the Christ insofar as we exercise our freedom to unite ourselves with His impulse. It goes without saying that this does not necessarily mean becoming a member of a Christian denomination, for the Christ came for all humanity.

4.  Nine members developed in each age: the 5th Post-Atlantean epoch
Spiritual science has shown that there are 9 members of Man’s organism, which correspond to the 9 levels of consciousness – traditionally called ‘spiritual hierarchies’ -  above that of Man. These 9 members of the human organism are 3 ‘bodily members’, 3 soul members, and 3 spiritual members. In the course of evolution one of these members has been developed in each successive historical epoch. An epoch lasts 2160 years and is an astronomical phenomenon related to the vernal equinox which I do not have time to go into now. This does not mean that Man’s existence lasts only 9 x 2160, or 19,440 years, for prior to the Atlantean catastrophe which ended approximately in 8000 BC, there were 7 further developments of Man’s organism, and even more in the epochs before that. In what RS calls the Post-Atlantean epoch, from 8000 BC to approximately 8000 AD, there are 7 periods when the various members of Man’s being are further developed. Since the 15th century, we have been living in the 5th of these periods, and this 5th period will continue until the 36th century. During this 5th period one of Man’s soul members is being developed, namely the Consciousness Soul. This is that part of our soul which enables us not merely to develop our own individual thinking capacity, which was the task of the previous 4th epoch, but to apply that thinking to morality so that we can do the Good; it is intrinsically thus bound up with conscience. As such, this is the epoch above all which is concerned with the problem of evil. Each epoch has its own key problem or task to deal with. The problem of the 4th epoch was that of  developing individualised thinking in order to answer the question: what is the truth about birth and death? The question of our 5th epoch is that of morality, of right, or Good action, and it is the confrontation with evil that awakens us to this. Evil then in the broad sense, can summarised in the following perhaps uncomfortable statement: it is ultimately the result of action by two polar opposite spiritual beings, Lucifer and Ahriman, who are the servants of the third, Sorath, and who work within human consciousness in order to pose the questions that human beings need to awaken to spiritual reality in modern times in their Consciousness Soul. Evil stands before us or rather, within us and challenges us: understand me, and in understanding me, begin to awaken to all spiritual reality. It poses a question – will you wake?

5.  The 1899 threshold and human threefolding
Within this mighty process of human development a small period of 5000 years has been crucial. This lasted from 3101 BC until 1899 AD and is known as the Age of Darkness. In that period, the natural clairvoyance which  most human beings had been born with until the 4th millennium BC and which had given them  – without any effort on their part – insight into the spiritual invisible worlds – this natural clairvoyance was removed. Only a few initiates retained real clarity with respect to the spiritual worlds, and only after a difficult training. During those 5000 years mankind was the most cut off from its spiritual parents, and had to walk its way towards freedom alone, in spiritual darkness until Mankind had learned to think for itself. The darkness could not be allowed to continue forever, though, for if it did, the errors which Man would fall into as a result of the inspirations of the Powers of Evil would result in Man’s suicide – it would be a one-sided contest, you might say. In 1899, therefore, the Doors of natural clairvoyant perception slowly began to reopen. More and more people in the 20th century have been having spiritual experiences, but owing to the length of the Age of Darkness and the ignorant materialism which developed during that time, many are in confusion about the nature of their experiences.

Now the opening of the Doors means the crossing of a threshold for humanity. Whether we like it or not, we are today effectively living in the spiritual world while yet in the physical body, and many people are becoming aware of this – hence the many bizarre events that have happened in the 20th century. One of the consequences of this – which parallels our individual experience after death – is that our soul faculties of thinking, feeling, and willing separate. These 3 are more or less bound together during our earthly lives by our physical bodies, but after death, it is not so much a case of 3-in-one but 1 among or between 3. One sees an increasing one-sidedness in people as they incline to thinking, feeling, or willing respectively according to their karma. This is why Rudolf Steiner said that deep in the unconscious will of modern humanity there is an awareness of  what he called threefolding, the threefold structuring of reality. The threefold slogan Liberty, Equality, Fraternity was a foreshadowing, a heralding  of this event  – the threefolding of our soul-life that results from crossing the threshold of the spiritual world. If we are awake and look around us, we shall see evidence of this threefold impulse everywhere, even though we have not yet managed to realise it consciously in our social arrangements. The yearning for some kind of 3rd Way is only another manifestation of it.

Now the Powers of Evil know all this; they know that it is inevitable. It is written into the script of evolution which they had no power to write. They therefore have to work within its parameters. So they try to introduce threefold elements themselves in illegitimate ways that will serve their purposes of total world domination. They know that because people feel this threefold impulse subconsciously, they will subconsciously incline towards them. The aim of the powers of opposition, however, is to prevent a real threefolding at all costs – to keep Mankind stuck in binary dualistic systems and false destructive dichotomies. But because their plans for world dominion will have to be world-spanning, they will have to take threefolding into account, for they  will have to embrace the whole of the modern human being, the whole of society – the economic, the political, and the cultural/spiritual realms. The current construction of the NWO slave state on threefold lines – stage 1, from the EEC to the European Union, stage 2, from NAFTA to the American Union, and stage 3, from APEC to the Asia-Pacific Union is clear evidence of this. Blair’s 3rd Way is a lesser example.

6.  The coming of the Beast (666) from the abyss: 1933 – 1998 – 1999 -  2000
As a result of the crossing of the threshold, RS maintained, 33 years after the event, some people would begin to perceive the Christ in the realm where He is now active, namely, the biosphere of the Earth, called in spiritual science the etheric realm. This is the very beginning of the process that is called the Second Coming in the clouds. It is the realm where the spiritual beings traditionally known as Angels are most active, and whereas 2000 years ago, Christ moved among physical men in a very limited physical space as Jesus, He now moves among the Angels on a simultaneous global level. Before what he called this reappearance  of Christ in the etheric realm, however, Rudolf Steiner said that Man would first have to meet the Beast, the Antichrist,  rising out of the the Abyss of the spiritual world in that year 1933. Rudolf Steiner had died eight years earlier in 1925, and the Beast did indeed rise, with a threefold proclamation: “Ein Reich, Ein Volk, Ein Führer!” which was a perversion of the three social realms of economic life, political life, and cultural life. Those 3 realms of the social life correspond to the 3 soul forces of Man: willing, feeling, and thinking respectively. For 12 years the Beast rampaged, trumpeting with hideous violence and evil his assault on the new Christ revelation, seeking to deflect Man’s attention away from that revelation and towards himself.

Many have drawn attention to the fact that 1998 = 3 x 666, the traditional number of the Beast of the Apocalypse. Rudolf Steiner also did this, saying that in this year the Antichrist, who is the Being known as Sorath, the master of Lucifer and Ahriman, will again attack humanity through his favoured techniques, which are those of black magic. 3 x 666 = 1998, and whereas  1997/3 = 665.666rec and 2001/3 = 667,  1999/3 = 666.333rec and  2000/3 = 666.666rec. The 3 years 1998, 1999, and 2000 are thus directly linked with the number 666, and in these 3 years above all we can expect the most significant  endeavours on the part of the two-horned beast Sorath. These will in a sense be the culmination of the ways in which he challenged humanity 666 years ago in 1332 and 666 years before that in the year 666 itself. Rudolf Steiner dealt with these earlier challenges at some length in his work.

7.  The 21st century human ego
The 3 years 1998-2000 of course also stand on the cusp of  the transition from the 2nd to the 3rd millennia. Is this 21st century more than just a number? Materialists, rationalists, and atheists do not think so. I do not have time to go into this in great detail today, but because it belongs very much to the question of evil in our times, it must be touched upon. Since the reversal of the direction of humanity’s path by the Christ, from involution to evolution – there has been effectively a new humanity on this planet – what St. Paul called the New Adam, the humanity of the Christian era – a humanity in which the Risen Christ Being makes His Presence felt everywhere, no matter what the religion of a country. Now this new humanity has a life; it was born 2000 years ago; and a careful study of human history, East and West, shows that one year in the life of an individual is equivalent to a century in the life of this humanity. Spiritual science reveals how an individual being grows in seven year periods as the members of his organism develop. 21 is a particularly important point since that is when the human ego begins to take full responsibility for the organism after the threefold development of the physical body, the life body, and the feeling body. This was recognised in the old days by the custom of giving the key to the door at 21. Now the new humanity, the New Adam,  is about to enter its 21st year – and it is precisely at this moment of Mankind’s incipient responsibility for its own development and for the Earth as a whole that the Powers of evil intend to launch their strongest attack, so that humanity may fail to connect with its higher Ego, Who is the Christ. This is an important reason why manifestations of evil are so prominent today, just at this point in the 2160 year-long 5th Post-Atlantean epoch, which, as I have said, will not finish until the 36th century.

8.  The incarnation of 3 spiritual beings over 5000 years
The final concept we need to understand the machinations of evil in our times concerns another imminent event of truly global proportions. I refer to the incarnation onto the physical plane of the Being of Ahriman, the senior servant of Sorath since the turning point of time 2000 years ago. Sorath himself has never and will never incarnate into physical reality, but the triad of Lucifer, Christ, and Ahriman do incarnate – all in the space of 5000 years; Lucifer in the East, in China in 3000 BC, a hundred years after the closing of the doors of clairvoyant perception; Christ in the centre, in Palestine, at the turning point of time itself and in humanity’s darkest hour, when clairvoyant perception and the Mystery Centres were all but dead; and Ahriman in the West, in America, a hundred years after the doors of perception began to reopen in 1900. While Lucifer has sought  to lead Man away from the beneficent spiritual powers and  make Man excarnate prematurely, abandon the Earth and thus his schooling on the Earth plane, Ahriman has tried to keep Man illegitimately fettered to the Earth, to condense humanity to the point of abject slavery to the material realm. In our time, since the Industrial Revolution, the application of electrical power, and the development of cyborg technology, this means the utter mechanisation of humanity. Ahriman must now play his part and incarnate onto the earthly plane. Before Man’s clairvoyant faculties recover to the point where spiritual reality will once again be obvious, Ahriman has a short time in which to appear on Earth in the physical form of a human being and establish a purely material empire that is truly global in scope – a net to ensnare all humanity.

The physical stage Ahriman needs for his incarnation is the continent of America, and especially the Far West of that continent, the land of skeletal nature – of salt lakes, Death Valleys, Grand Canyons, and the Rocky Mountains. Rudolf Steiner indicated that wherever mountain ranges from north to south are in parallel with the Earth’s magnetic polar structure -  and that is above all the case in America, north and south – there the forces of sub-natural electromagnetism are strongest. Ahriman needed to spread the forces of death and scleroticism which are stronger here than anywhere else on Earth all over the globe. It is not an accident that there we find more abstract purely geometric  geographical boundaries than anywhere else on the planet – Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Saskatchewan; nor is it an accident that there we also find the  centre of the computer industry in Silicon Valley and the centre of the industry of illusions in Hollywood. Above all, Ahriman needed a people, a particular nation through whom he could work. Rudolf Steiner has described in great detail the long preparation needed for the Incarnation of Christ into the Hebrew-Jewish people. Ahriman’s incarnation has also required a long period of preparation, both of the place and of the people into which he will incarnate. He needed to create the beginnings of a new world state precisely in this land of America, and from there, he could reach out to enmesh the whole globe in his spidery web.

Thus 3000 years before Christ and 2000 years after Him – a period of 5000 years in all – Christ’s chief opponents appear in the physical world as He did in accordance with profound occult laws in order to assist the process of  Man’s spiritual development in freedom. In occultism 5 is the number both of Man and also of evil, the number of the upright pentagram of white magic where 3 is above 2, and also of the upside down pentagram of black magic, where 2 is above 3. 5 is thus the number of choice for humanity – choice between white and black magic, between freedom and slavery, for in the evolutionary scheme of things,  we are now living in the 5th Post-Atlantean epoch. It began in the 15th century and will continue until the 36th. Ahriman’s incarnation is now approaching to present Man with the ultimate choice; his incarnation will present the ultimate picture of unfreedom – of the global slavery which the New World Order represents. That incarnation is now imminent; RS said it would take place very shortly after the beginning of the 3rd millennium, and there are good reasons to think the event may have been brought forward; the ‘birth’ of the individuality that is to bear Ahriman may well take place within the 3 years 1998-2000. There are some who say that it has already taken place and that Ahriman will step forward in those 3 years to claim his earthly power. Either way, it is clear that the social and cultural, even the physical atmosphere, is being prepared for this event. Hence the widespread fear and unease, the increasing sense of being driven by an unstoppable force, the removal of opportunities for quiet reflection, the trivialisation of cultural and political life that works against measured thought.

9.  The New Rome – the “chosen people”:  Britain and America
Before Christ had chosen the Hebrews as His vehicle, Lucifer had also chosen a people – the Chinese – around the year 3000 BC to aid him in his purposes. Out of the European people Ahriman chooses around the year 1500, he fashions a world empire and a world culture. Out of this people he inspires  scientific, philosophical, political, industrial and economic revolutions that  in myriad ways serve to propagate his creed of materialism. In the 18th century he leads this people to establish its domination first through crude military and commercial means, through trade and war, and above all, he brings forth from this people a new abstract nation, the first ideological nation in history – a country without an actual name: the United States of America. This, not his  European instrument, is the country he will ultimately require for his purposes. In the 19th century meanwhile,  he initiates his European instrument into the more subtle ways of control through finance and politics, not hesitating to misuse the genuine idealism found in many members of that  people. He causes his minions to speak of the need for Empire to spread the benefits of their civilisation. Through lies told to his  chosen people he brings about a world war in which he seeks to destroy the spiritual capacities of cultures, namely Germany and Russia, very different from those of his chosen people. These are cultures which represent dangers for him in that they contain within them particular seeds of effective spiritual opposition to his materialistic purposes.

Amidst the chaotic conditions following the War which he has precipitated, he creates a League of Nations and later still a United Nations organisation to unite the world behind common ‘universal’ values, which are of course the values that he insinuates into the heads of his puppets. Since his chosen European people are now exhausted by the wars he has forced them into, he does not hesitate to make them hand over the baton of world domination to their offspring -  a mere stripling of a people in historical terms  – a people that with all the arrogance of immature and vigorous youth considers itself to be both the finest distillation of the Old World and much more. Into the hands of this immature Parsifal-like youngster, Ahriman gives awesome technological material power in order to fit the new chosen nation for its role as the New Roman Empire. Recognising that, over the threshold, the soul of Man is threefold, Ahriman seeks to bring about in Man’s 21st year  a trinitarian world, three-in-one: three giant economic blocs prior to the establishment of his crowning achievement – the creation of a single world state, a single world government that in the century of Man’s coming of age will be able to exercise a more total but more subtle control greater than anything a Hitler or a Stalin ever dreamed of. Ahriman’s chosen peoples for this task of world domination in the 5th Post-Atlantean epoch have been we ourselves, the English-speaking peoples.

10.  The British origins of  the New World Order: Rhodes – Milner – the RIIA
What evidence is there that what I have just said is true? That the predominant spiritual force of opposition to human development in our time has chosen to work primarily through the English-speaking peoples rather than  through those peoples whom in the 20th century we in the English-speaking world have been accustomed to regard as the major loci of the forces of evil – namely, Germany, Russia and Japan?

Although it could be argued that  what we now know as the New World Order impulse began with the establishment of  what became the world’s first powerful central bank, the Bank of England in 1694, Rudolf Steiner pointed to the 1890s  as the time when the drive towards the Ahrimanic slave state really got underway. We recall that this was just before the doors of perception began to open. 1890 was 11 years after Edison’s first electric light bulb was switched on in America . In 1891  Cecil Rhodes, the greatest and richest British entrepreneur of the age, who made his fortune establishing British control over the world’s main gold and diamond deposits in South Africa, started a secret society in Britain together with two other men, the occultist and leading journalist W.T. Stead, and Reginald Brett, later Lord Esher, confidant and adviser to Queen Victoria, Edward VII and George V. Their goal was to establish a secret society on Freemasonic and Jesuit lines dedicated to placing the entire globe under imperial and federal British or, if that was not possible, under Anglo-American dominion, since Rhodes believed that the English-speaking peoples were the finest most civilised people on the Earth and deserved to rule all others. All this is well documented. After Rhodes’ death, the secret society was taken in hand by one of its later members, Rhodes’ lieutenant in South Africa, Alfred Lord Milner. The American historian Carroll Quigley  made a penetrating study of  what he called the Rhodes-Milner Group and of the network of highly-placed individuals through whom it worked. In his 1949 book “The Anglo-American Establishment” , he described the Group’s influence on political and social life as follows:

    “It plotted the Jameson raid of 1895; it caused the Boer War of 1899-1902; it set up and controls the Rhodes Trust (the Rhodes scholarships – to link the British and American elites) ; it created the Union of South Africa in 1906-1910…it founded the British Empire periodical ‘The Round Table’ in 1910…it has been  the most powerful single influence in All Souls, Balliol, and New Colleges in Oxford for more than a generation; it has controlled “The Times” (newspaper) for more than 50 years with the exception of the years 1919-22; it publicised the idea of and the name British Commonwealth of  Nations in the period 1908-1918; it was the chief influence in Lloyd George’s war administration in 1917-1919 (that was the cabinet that refused negotiations with Germany and insisted on fighting on to unconditional surrender) and dominated the British delegation to the Peace Conference of 1919; it had a great deal to do with the formation and management of the League of Nations and of the system of mandates; it founded the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) in 1919 and still controls it; it was one of the chief influences on British policy toward Ireland, Palestine, and India in the period 1917-45; it was a very important influence on the policy of appeasement of Germany during the years 1920-40 (which allowed Hitler enough rope to hang himself and in doing so, to wreak incalculable damage on humanity); and it controlled and still controls, to a very considerable extent, the sources and the writing of the history of British Imperial and foreign policy since the Boer war.”

Until 1902, Rhodes was the leader. He was succeeded from 1902 to 1925 by Milner. From 1925 until 1940 the group’s leaders were Philip Kerr (Lord Lothian) and Lionel Curtis. Philip Kerr, as Lloyd George’s secretary, was the man who created the infamous Article 231 of the Versailles Peace Treaty, the ‘war guilt’ clause, which perhaps did more anything else to alienate Germans against the West and contributed mightily to support for Hitler. Both Lothian and Curtis were indefatigable workers for the League of Nations, for the transformation of the British Empire into the Commonwealth in which the former colonies could continue to be controlled, and for the idea of a united federal Europe.

11.  The US takes over the New World Order agenda:CFR – Wall St – the Federal Reserve – the UN

In the 1890s there was increasing contact, financial and marital,between the plutocracies of Britain and the United States, contacts which had been maintained through Freemasonic lodges since the 18th century. The contacts between the elites of the two countries have been very well-described by Christopher Hitchens in his book “Blood, Class, and Nostalgia – Anglo-American Ironies”. In the 1890s then, it comes as no surprise that the Anglophile East Coast elite led America into the imperial ratrace in 1898 by seizing Cuba and the Philippines from Spain. From that time on, the relationship between the two elites became symbiotic until 1915 when Britain, bankrupt after a year of fighting Germany, was forced to go cap in hand to Wall St bankers in order to carry on the war. The baton of imperial world power passed from London to Washington, as Ahriman had decreed it must. Britain’s world role was effectively over. Having carried out revolutions in economics, industry, science and philosophy, created a world economy and given birth to the world’s first ideological nation founded on abstract principles, the United States, Ahriman’s first chosen people were forced to give up their place to their offspring. However, this point of handover was symbolised by the creation by the Milner Group of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) in 1919. The American sympathisers and members of the Milner Group who were involved in this manoeuvre went on to establish the RIIA’s sister organisation, the Council On Foreign Relations (CFR) in New York in 1921. These twin organisations were to become the de facto foreign ministries of Britain and the USA – outside the normal political system. Whichever party has been  in power since the 1920s, the foreign policy followed has been that the twin sisters, which have themselves been following the ideals of Anglo-American world domination laid down by Rhodes, Stead, and Milner in the 1890s. At every step of the way, the twin sisters’ policy has been backed up by the men of money, the bankers and corporate bosses – prominent among them have been the Rockefellers and the Rothschilds; intermarriage and freemasonic and professional affiliation has linked many of the business elite to the political legal, and academic elites. These elites came together in the CFR and the RIIA. Again, all this is well-documented; it does not need me to prove it. Founding members of the CFR included Woodrow Wilson’s secretive advisor and eminence grise Colonel House, and …such potentates of international banking as J.P. Morgan, John D. Rockefeller, Paul Warberg, Otto Kahn, and Jacob Schiff…the same clique which had engineered the establishment of the Federal Reserve System, according to Gary Allen in the October 1972 issue of the journal AMERICAN OPINION.  The years after the First World war were also the period when Hollywood, American jazz music and American corporate adverstising began to take the world by storm. Shaken by the events of the Great War, and aware of their failure to produce new social ideals other the intellectual madness of fascism and bolshevism, Europeans lost faith in their own culture and looked increasingly over to the apparent  dynamism and beguiling illusions of  America.

The founding president of the CFR was John W. Davis, J.P. Morgan’s personal attorney, while the vice-president was Paul Cravath, also representing the Morgan interests. Professor Carroll Quigley characterized the CFR as …a front group for J.P. Morgan and Company in association with the very small American Round Table Group. Over time Morgan influence was lost to the Rockefellers. On the goals of the investment bankers who control central banks, Quigley wrote in his book “Tragedy and Hope” that their aim is:

    “… nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole… controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent private meetings and conferences.”  

Baron M.A. Rothschild wrote famously in the early 19th century, Give me control over a nation’s currency and I care not who makes its laws. A key advocate of a strong centralised federal government for the new USA and a powerful central bank was the Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton. From the time of Hamilton’s understandings with Barings Bank and the City of London in the early 1800s, the world of high finance strove to impose a central bank on America in line with Baron Rothschild’s remark. They finally succeeded in imposing this tyranny of oligarchical private bankers upon the USA in 1913 with the establishment of the Federal Reserve. For over 100 years the spirit  Thomas Jefferson had held out against them. Jefferson wrote:  

    “The Central Bank is an institution of the most deadly hostility existing against the principles and form of our Constitution…if the American people allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all their property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.”   

This nightmare was realised for millions during the Great Depression that set the scene for the rising of the Beast out of the abyss in the 1930s. It is now recognised that that economic catastrophe was directly caused by the actions and inactions of  Wall St bankers and the Federal Reserve. At that time there was an intimate relationship between Montagu Norman, Governor of the Bank of England, and Benjamin Strong, head of the Federal Reserve. The two men regarded themselves as lords of the earth.

We must be quite clear, however, that this grandiose programme of world domination is no mere drive for power by international bankers and financiers, by multinational corporations, or the military-industrial complex. Those who direct these agencies are a relatively small group of men – almost no women – who, more or less consciously are serving the far-reaching spiritual interests of Ahriman. Let us listen to some of the opinions of those who say they would ‘improve the lot of the human race through their United Nations and other agencies. From the 1890s on, while the new mass media organs such as “The Daily Mail” were created to influence the thinking of the newly enfranchised, newly literate working class, the middle classes in Britain were moved by writers such as H.G.Wells, who for a number of years before the First World War was a member of a dining club called the Coefficients. This club brought Wells into the orbit of Lord Milner. Organised by the socialist intellectuals Sidney and Beatrice Webb, the club brought together influential people from both right and left who had an interest in, shall we say, “refreshing” the British Empire. All of these people were more or less authoritarian elitists and very anti-German. Wells for example, in his “Anticipations of the Reaction of Mechanical and Scientific Progress Upon Human Life and Thought” (1901) wrote:

    “The ethical system which will dominate the world state will be shaped primarily to favour..beautiful and strong bodies, clear and powerful minds, and to check the procreation of base and servile types…and the alternative in right conduct between living fully, beautifully and efficiently, will be to die…The men of the New Republic (one world government) will have little pity and less benevolence…They will hold…that a certain portion of the population exists only on sufferance…and on the understanding that they do not propagate, and I do not foresee any reason to suppose that they will not hesitate to kill when that sufferance is abused…The men of the New Republic will not be squeamish either in facing or inflicting death…They will have an ideal that will make killing worth the while…They will have the faith to kill…If deterrent punishments are used at all in the code of the future, the deterrent will be good scientifically caused pain.”   

Wells’ social ideas were full of this kind of fascistic scientism. Indeed, obsessed with fears about the increasing degeneracy of the “imperial race”, the British elite led the way in the pseudo-science of eugenics, which today is making a big comeback.

Col. House, master manipulator of American politics and whom  President Woodrow Wilson called ‘my alter ego’ was also writing a novel at this time on similar proto-fascist lines. Called “Philip Dru: Administrator”, it was published in 1912. Many of its ideas were taken up by Wilson’s administration, and at the core of its foreign policy ideas was  “an international league of powers, founded upon Anglo-Saxon solidarity”  This became the League of Nations, and later the UN. The “Anglo-saxon solidarity” was managed by the unofficial foreign minstries of the two countries, the CFR and the RIIA. House’s book called for a one world government, a one world army and one world economy ruled by an Anglo-saxon financial oligarchy and a dictator aided by a 12 -man council.

Population control has always been a major  theme of Anglo-American  One Worlders. Bertrand Russell, a big supporter of the UN, wrote in 1953 (The Impact of Science on Society):

    “I do not pretend that birth control is the only way in which population can be kept from increasing…War…has hitherto been disappointing in this respect, but perhaps bacteriological war may prove more effective. If a Black Death could be spread throughout the world once in every generation survivors could procreate freely without making the world too full..The state of affairs might be somewhat unpleasant, but what of that? Really high-minded people are indifferent to happiness, especially other people’s. There are three ways of securing a society that shall be stable as regards population. The first is that of birth control, the second that of infanticide or really destructive wars, and the third that of general misery, except for a powerful minority…These considerations prove that a scientific world society cannot be stable unless there is a world government…Unless…one power or group of powers emerges victorious and proceeds to establish a single government of the world with a monopoly of of armed force, it is clear that the level of civilisation must continually decline. Bertrand Russell also stated: Diet, injections and injunctions will combine from a very early age to produce the sort of character and the sort of beliefs that the authorities consider desirable, and any serious criticism of the powers that be will be psychologically impossible. Even if all are miserable, all will believe themselves to be happy, because the government will tell them that it is so.”

In 1948 the British scientist Julian Huxley, the first head of UNESCO wrote in “UNESCO: Its Purpose and Its Philosophy”:

    “Even though…any radical eugenic policy will be for many years politically and psychologically impossible, it will be important for UNESCO to see that the eugenic problem is handled with the greatest care, and that the public mind is informed of the issues at stake so that much that is now unthinkable may at least become thinkable.”

Much that these three men – Wells, Russell and Huxley -  wrote about here has already come true. We should remember also that these ideas were not those of  Himmler, Goebbels, Stalin, or Pol Pot, but of three leading representatives of intellectual life in the English-speaking world. Such statements as I have quoted could be multiplied many many times, made by other UN representatives and supporters, or by Anglo-American politicians aand academics. Brook Chisholm, former director of the United Nation World Health Organization wrote in SCP Journal, 1991:

    “To achieve world government, it is necessary to remove from the minds of men their individualism, loyalty to family traditions, national patriotism and religious dogmas”.   

The well-known French naturalist Jacques Cousteau was fond of making eugenic pronouncements; in The UNESCO Courier (November 1991) he said in an interview:

    “It’s terrible to have to say this. World population must be stabilised and to do that we must eliminate 350,000 people per year.”

The UN of course, along with those other great benevolent institutions that have determined the fate of the world since 1945 was set up by the same CFR One World Government clique, which, as an advisory group to the State Department – it virtually WAS the State department -  was already planning the postwar world order before Pearl Harbour! On September 1, 1961, the Christian Science Monitor noting that the CFR building was across the way from the Soviet Embassy to the UN stated that:  Through publishing houses controlled by this same financial elite unwelcome books have been squashed and useful books promoted; fortunately publishing has few barriers to entry and is almost atomistically competitive. Through control of a dozen or so major newspapers, run by editors who think alike, public information can be almost orchestrated at will. Yesterday, the space program; today, an energy crisis or a campaign for ecology; tommorrow, a war in the Middle East or some other manufactured ‘crisis.’ This, we recall, is how Quigley described the power of the Milner Group in Britain, and it was the Milner group that set up the RIIA (Chatham House).

Admiral Chester Ward was a member of the CFR for over a decade but became one of its harshest critics, revealing its inner workings in a 1975 book, “Kissinger on the Couch.” In it he states

    “The most powerful cliques in these elitist groups have one objective in common: they want to bring about the surrender of the sovereignty and national independence of the United States.”   

Most CFR members, he wrote, are one-world-government ideologists whose long-term goals were officially summed up in September 1961 by State Department Document 7277:

    “…elimination of all armed forces and armaments except those needed to maintain internal order within states and to furnish the United Nations with peace forces…by the time it (UN global government) would be so strong no nation could challenge it.”

In the 50th anniversary issue of “Foreign Affairs” , the official publication of the CFR, Kingman Brewster Jr. wrote an article entitled “Reflections on Our National Purpose.” in which he said that America’s purpose should be to do away with American nationality, and to “take some risks in order to invite others to pool their sovereignty with ours…” These “risks” include disarming to the point where America would be helpless against the “peace-keeping” forces of a global UN government. America should happily surrender its sovereignty to the world government in the interests of what he called the “world community” and which today’s media like to call “the international community”, that is, those who secretively direct the elite foreign policy establishments of Washington and London. Richard N. Gardner, former deputy assistant Secretary of State wrote in  “Foreign Affairs,” April 1974 that

    “In short, the ‘house of world order’ will have to be built from the bottom up rather than from the top down…An end run around national sovereignty, eroding it piece by piece, will accomplish much more than the old fashioned assault…”  

James Warburg, son of CFR founder Paul Warburg, and a member of FDR’s “brain trust,” testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on February 17, 1950,

    “We shall have world government whether or not you like it – by conquest or consent.”  

And most tellingly, in an address to the secretive Bilderberg Group at Evian, France, May 21, 1992, and transcribed from a tape recording made by one of the Swiss delegates, Henry Kissinger said:

    “Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful! This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all people of the world will plead with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government.” (quoted in Who’s Who of the Elite by Robert Gaylon Ross Sr)

As I have already mentioned, the CFR were planning the New World Order before 1941. Perhaps the earliest and clearest statement of the New World Order in the form in which it is now coming about was by Dr. Quincy Wright, a professor of International Law at the University of Chicago, who in 1941 described what he referred to as “The New World Order”  as opposed to “Hitler’s New Order” of that era. Wright made it clear that National Sovereignty and the independence of individual nations would be limited by a world government. He spoke of  three continental systems A “United States of Europe,” an Asiatic system and a Pan-American union.Wright also forecast that each continental system would have a common military force and that national military forces would be greatly reduced or outlawed.  A report in   THE BALTIMORE NEWS-POST, Monday December 8, 1941,  – note the date, (in Japan) the very day of Pearl Harbor, shows how the thoughts of the CFR  are insinuated into the minds of the masses, sometimes far in advance of the events being discussed. The article read: CHICAGO, Dec. 7 – ( U. P. ) A noted student of international law forsees a  post-war world confederation in which Anglo-American sea power will insure peace and freedom of commerce. Dr. Quincy Wright of the University of Chicago predicts that if Hitler is defeated, the Nazi Chief’s projected “new order” will be replaced by a system patterned in many respects after the League of Nations – but immeasurably strengthened by American participation and the use of the British and United States navies to enforce its edicts. He said: “the main tasks of the world system will be to maintain freedom of the seas, moderate freedom of commerce and to prevent aggression.” Wright believes the new world league will formulate a “basic declaration of the rights of man,” including President Roosevelt’s “four freedoms.” To protect those rights, he predicted, the system will have the power to deal with and punish individuals in some cases. At present international law technically is concerned only with states leaving regulation of individuals to national authorities. Like the old League of Nations, Wright thinks, the new confederation will have three branches: a council or legislative body, an administrative authority, and a world court  which will arbitrate disputes between nations and questions of international law. It will promote world prosperity, chiefly through limitation of national tariffs and it will act promptly against aggressors. Its chief weapon will be naval power provided largely by Britain and the United States.

Wright also expects the rise of several continental systems, subject to the world league, but with more extensive powers over their numbers and more closely-knit organization. Among these, he believes will be a United States of Europe, an Asiatic system and a Pan-American Union. Russia probably will remain outside of all the continental systems, he said. Each of the continental systems probably will have a common airforce, with national air forces outlawed or greatly reduced, according to Wright. Members of these air forces will owe sole allegiance to their respective system and to no nation. By means of its exclusive command of air power, each continental organization will be able to preserve the independence of small nations adjoining large and powerful neighbors. Sovereignty and independence of individual nations will be retained, subject to limitations necessary to operation of the continental and world systems, Wright predicted. The universal confederation will enforce peace among the continental systems.

After World War II, the Ahrimanic drive towards world government was continued covertly by the CFR and the RIIA. Members of the two organisations formed secretive offshoots such as the Bilderberg Group in 1954. This was formed to oversee the European Union project. Bilderberg attendee Jack Sheinkman, chairman of the Amalgamated Bank in the United States, told “The Scotsman” newspaper, ” The idea of a common European currency was discussed (by the Bilderberg Group) before it became policy, as was the establishment of U.S.-China diplomatic relations before Richard Nixon became involved.” When asked for an example of a Bilderberg  accomplishment [former U.S. ambassador to West Germany] George McGhee said,

    “I believe you could say the Treaty of Rome, which brought the Common  Market into being, was nurtured at these meetings and aided by the main stream of our discussions there. Prince Bernhard is a great catalyst.”

 Retired academic and Bilderberg researcher Andrew Lockhart Walker told “The Scotsman”,

    “Bilderberg did all the groundwork for the group which is running Europe behind the  scenes. They’ve had a backroom boy role for a very long time.”

Meanwhile the Trilateral Commission was set up by David Rockefeller and Zbigniew Brzezinski in 1973 to guide the Asia-Pacific Union into existence by manipulation of Japan’s elite. Members of these clandestine groups are the elite of the developed world. Their meetings, usually annual, are never reported in the mainstream media, and they are governed by the Chatham House Rule which forbids statements to the media. This secrecy is a continuation in modern times of the secrecy of masonic lodges in which 18th and 19th century elitists made decisions affecting the lives of millions. A leading Japanese member of  the Trilateral Commission is Kiichi Miyazawa, former Prime Minister of Japan and recently chosen for the key post of Finance Minister to deal with the current financial crisis in Japan – in other words, to facilitate the US takeover of  Japan’s financial system.

12. The threefold project of global union
Thr first of the three projects mentioned by Prof Wright back in 1941 when the CFR was already planning the postwar world order, was a United States of Europe. This has been underway since 1950 and is now rapidly nearing completion. Its chief architects, Count Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi, and Jean Monnet, worked out of the cultural and economic spheres respectively – aiming for the eventual goal of political union. Both men had intimate contacts with the US East Coast elite and lived and worked through the war years in America. Coudenhove was the publicist who boldly sought the limelight. He wished to reinject Europe with the spirit of Roman Catholicism and the Hapsburg dynasty. He first became influential in the 1920s calling for a United States of Europe which he called the Pan-European Union.  He too wished to exclude Russia, but also Britain. In 1924, he referred to the American financier Paul Warburg as “the founder of the Federal Reserve System.” Louis Rothschild said that Max Warburg, his friend and Paul’s brother, had read Coudenhove’s book. “To my great surprise, said Count Richard, “Warburg spontaneously offered us 60,000 gold marks, to tide the movement over for its first three years.” Max remained a convinced Pan European until his death in 1946. Jean Monnet was the consummate and obsessively secretive Mr Fixit. Eternal institutions, not expendable individuals, were what interested him and he sought to establish the institutions of his United States of Europe by the most clandestine methods possible in a democratic society. He was eagerly assisted every step of the way by the US government. Europeans would be forced into cooperation, he believed, by economic necessity. He spoke always of ‘peace’ but acted out of the imperatives of secrecy and compulsion. Both Monnet and his allies in successive US administrations were determined that Britain, now minus its empire, would be ensconced within his European architecture.

The second phase of the threefold drive to world government – Pan-American Union – was actively pushed by Nelson Rockefeller in the 1940s then allowed to ‘rest’ during the Cold War. Since George Bush proclaimed the New World Order in 1990, Washington has taken up Nelson Rockefeller’s intentions  with fervour, and the young, energetic and masterly wheeler-dealer Bill Clinton was brought in to put the first stage -NAFTA – in place. Now he has done this, he has fulfilled his function and is currently being removed to make way for the man who will bind North to South America in the American hemispheric Union Nelson Rockefeller dreamed of.

The third phase – the transformation of the APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum) yen-dominated bloc into an Asian Union will be the most difficult due to the vast disparity of cultures involved. Having gained economic control of both the European and American continents, the US-dominated global financial elite is now in the current Asian economic crisis seeking to gain control of Asian and especially Japanese financial systems to enable it to knit together Asian economies in ways conducive to Ahriman’s longterm interests of  a global union.  To this end, it will be remembered, millions are required to be exterminated in order to reduce the world’s population. China would seem to be the obvious candidate for such inhuman treatment. By 2020 it is intended that Asia-Pacific will have become a single free trading bloc. By 2050, the attempt will be made to weld the three continental blocs into a single global unit policed by the UN or its successor. All this will be done in such a way as to convince the world’s peoples that there is no alternative. In a meeting of the Bilderberg Group in June 1991, David Rockefeller, President of the CFR and of Chase Manhattan Bank – a man who stands near the very apex of  the public structure of Ahrimanic global planning said:

    “We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time magazine, and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promise of discretion for almost 40 years…It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards world government. The supernational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practised in past centuries.”

This grandiose project of supermaterialism, which is based on profound occult principles and knowledge, is proceeding on all levels. Driven largely by financial manipulation and computer technology, it aims to cast an Anglo-American net over the whole of culture. The masterplan for this entire project can be found in that infamous document The Protocols of the Elders of Zion which first seems to have appeared at the end of the 1890s, that decade which has already featured so much in this talk. The Protocols were immediately claimed to be evidence of a sinister Jewish plot to take over the world. In fact, as David Icke has argued in his book “The Robots’ Rebellion”, the document shows all the signs of  an ingenious  and truly sinister effort to put the blame onto Jews for crimes against humanity which were being planned for the 20th century by the servants of Ahriman in the West – the architects of the New World Order – so as to deflect the attention of humanity away from the true perpetrators of the crimes.(1) The Protocols are quite clearly a systematic programme for a global slave state.  Protocol 12 states:

    “Literature and journalism are the two most important educational powers; for this reason (we)… will buy up the greater number of periodicals. By these means we shall neutralise the bad influence of the private press and obtain an enormous influence over the human mind…the public must not have the slightest suspicion of these measures, therefore all periodicals published by us will seem to be of contradictory views and opinions, thus inspiring confidence and presenting an attractive appearance to our unsuspecting enemies, who will thus fall into our trap and be disarmed…These newspapers, like the Indian God Vishnu, will be possessed of hundreds of  hands, each of which will be feeling the pulse of varying public opinion…If any chatterers are going to imagine that they are repeating the opinion of their party newspaper, they will in reality be repeating our own opinion, or the opinion which we desire.”  

The evil intelligence evident in the Protocols, which seem to have thought of everything, is astounding, but almost more astounding is the degree to which the scenario outlined in the Protocols has already been realised.

The Russian-American writer Ayn Rand wrote in 1963:

    “(I)n philosophy, we are taught that man’s mind is impotent, that reality is unknowable, that knowledge is an illusion, and reason a superstition. In psychology, we are told that man is a helpless automaton, determined by forces beyond his control, motivated by innate depravity. In literature, we are shown a line-up of murderers, dipsomaniacs, drug addicts, neurotics and psychotics as representatives of man’s soul–and are invited to identify our own among them–with the belligerent assertions that life is a sewer, a foxhole or a rat race, with the whining injunctions that we must love everything, except virtue, and forgive everything, except greatness. In politics we are told that America, the greatest, noblest, freest country on earth, is politically and morally inferior to Soviet Russia, the bloodiest dictatorship in history…If we look at modern intellectuals, we are confronted with the grotesque spectacle of such characteristics as militant uncertainty, crusading cynicism, dogmatic agnosticism, boastful self-abasement and self-righteous depravity–in an atmosphere of guilt, of panic, of despair, of boredom and of all pervasive evasion. If this is not the stage of being at the end of one’s resources, there is no further place to go.”

When we read such depressing but true descriptions of the state of the public mind then we should remember the nature of the mass media which has been “educating” the public mind these last 100 years.

Another American novelist, Taylor Caldwell, wrote in one of her last articles:

    “Many of us still dare to protest and will continue to do so while God gives us breath. To be effective we know we must direct our attacks on the real criminals, the wealthy and powerful and the secret elite of the world–the conspirators laboring night and day to enslave us.” “Even our own government is now their victim. For it is the conspiratorial elite who choose our rulers, nominate them and remove them by assassination or smear.” “I have fought these enemies of liberty in every book I have written. But too few have listened to me, as too few have listened to others who have warned of the conspirators.” “The hour is late. Americans must soon listen and act–or endure the black night of slavery that is worse than death. The plan, she said, is both gradual and devious: The CFR plotters well know that liberty-loving Americans will never knowingly, or willingly, accept the yoke of slavery of a World Superstate. That is why they designed such a devious and convoluted scheme over the years.” “Freedom is not free. It costs time, money and effort. Slavery is free.”

Conclusion
I hope I have managed to make clear the reasons for the evil of our times and that Ahriman’s project of  a supermaterialistic global slave state is being realised predominantly through the English-speaking peoples. Two questions remain: why was Britain (and later, its American offspring) in particular chosen as Ahriman’s vehicle – and can the peoples of these two countries summon up the force, even at this late stage, to resist Ahriman and prevent him from utterly dominating their societies and through them, the world? The first of these is a research question which I will only touch upon here. I feel it has to do preeminently with the peculiar spiritual geography of  the British Isles and of America – with Britain’s isolating insularity and powerfully phlegmatic, even bovine, nature forces. These predispose the Englishman towards rationalism and materialism. The American continent’s relationship to the earth’s magnetism I have already mentioned. It is a quality which amplifies the sclerotising activity of the ahrimanic double or doppelgänger which every human being bears within him. One also needs to consider the relation of these two parts of the world with the Atlantic, that is with the site of the ancient continent of Atlantis, itself. Current humanity came from Atlantis, and this era of ours, which began with  the Renaissance and which will last till the 4th millennium, is the crux, the time of  crisis and decision in the whole great Post-Atlantean epoch of history. Rudolf Steiner also spoke of Atlantis as the time when Ahriman first began to work into humanity.

We can not think of the English-speaking world as somehow guilty because of its relationship to Ahriman’s mighty Project. On the contrary, we need to see it rather as a heroic culture that is itself undergoing a terrible crucifixion and then forcing this onto the rest of the world. One does not hate a drug addict who pushes his drugs to feed his habit. One tries to help by understanding and empathy, and then, out of understanding, by deeds of practical love for him. Germany underwent a somewhat similar process for a much shorter period when, for the 12 apocalyptic years of Hitler’s Third Reich, the Antichrist Sorath overshadowed Germany.  The German people bore that evil for all of us, just as now the English-speaking world is bearing the brunt of being the prime vehicle for Ahriman’s incarnation. We in the English-speaking world, who have grown so accustomed to thinking of ourselves as the force of light in the world combatting the powers of evil elsewhere, need to realise that it is primarily we who are Ahriman’s chosen people and therefore we who have the prime responsibility for  helping others to cope with his all-pervading invasion into human civilisation in this age.

After Germany’s defeat in the First World War, Rudolf  Steiner made

the following observation  (Ideas for a New Europe p.37) (2):

    “the actual victor is the being of  the Anglo-American peoples, and…this being…is destined to dominate the world in the future…It will be easy to win external dominion, for this will be done with the help of forces for which the winners can claim no credit. The transfer of external dominion will take place with the relentlessness of  a force of nature…Will there be a sufficient number among those impelled to assume external dominion…who feel a responsibility for inserting into this entirely external materialistic dominion…an impetus for spiritual life? What is more, there is not much time in which this can be done. The middle of this century is a very important moment….the dominion of materialism bears within it the seed of destruction. To shoulder external dominion means to take on, and to live within, the forces of destruction, the forces of sickness in the world. Out of the new seed of the spirit will come something that can bear mankind onwards into the future. This seed will have to be nurtured, and those to whom dominion has fallen will be especially responsible for this.”  

Steiner is here saying that Anglo-American society will be inevitably be bound up with forces of sickness and death, with cultural poison, because the English-speaking countries, or rather their elites, have determined to ally themselves with Ahriman and  take on the rulership of the world – economic, political and cultural; he says further that very much will depend on whether a spiritual counterbalance to this sickness and poison can be created precisely by people in those same countries.

In this contribution, I have tried to indicate something of what we are up against. I trust that in the rest of the day, participants will be able to consider effective ways of developing, from within Anglo-American culture,  the spiritual counterbalance, the antidote to the poison, of which  Rudolf Steiner spoke.

(1) I wish to make it clear here that I in no way endorse the bizarre and grotesque ideas of David Icke about the responsibility of shape-shifting alien reptiles for the global conspiracy of the New World Order. Such ideas as those are but another manifestation of  a materialism that does not really take the spiritual world seriously. Ahriman does not require such creatures to apply his will. The world of ideas to which the human mind has access is quite sufficient for his purposes. That is the stage, or battleground that he seeks to dominate. Though I have since encountered others who have come to the same conclusion, it was in the book by David Icke, “The Robots’ Rebellion” (1994) that I first met the notion, which I consider to be valid, that the Protocols were not written by Jews against Gentiles, as claimed by rightists, fascists, and Nazis, but rather, with the intention of casting blame onto the Jews and diverting attention away from the real authors.
